The appetizer, starter, or antipasto, is often abundant in Abruzzo. Most trattorias will serve a variety of sliced salami and local cheese, bruschetta, grilled vegetables, and much more. Foreigners are often full after the antipasto and never get around to eating the main meal! Nowadays in most homes, the antipasto is used on Sundays or on holidays, while everyday meals start directly with the "primo" (pasta, rice, or soup) dish.
