Elevation 730 Population 1,050 Palmoli is located in the vicinities of Vasto, in the hills of the comunità montana, off the Statale 650 Trignina. HISTORICAL FACTSPalmoli was knows as “Palmula Monteverde”. That name was given because of the many olive groves in the hills with a strong pine green color. This hamlet has a long history. It goes back from the Frentani times (pre roman) and then it was passed to the Roman Empire. Around the year 1,000, the town moved from the bottom of the hill, all the way to the very top in order to protect themselves from the barbaric invasions of the Saracens. During the medieval times, the village was fortified with walls and entry doors. Inside the village, a castle was built for protection purposes. The first part of the castle that was built was the tower. It was commissioned by Pandulfo di Sangro, count of monteodorisio in 1095. Later on, in 1400 the Marquis style palace was built and in 1772 they added the chapel next to it. The chapel was commissioned by the Marquis Severino of Gagliati. WHAT TO SEE - Castle, which have been declared a national monument in 1928 - Museo delle cività contadine, i.e. Museum of the farmers traditions.
