Official websites of each province, for those who understand the Italian language: L'Aquila: http://www.provincia.laquila.it/ Teramo: http://www.provincia.teramo.it/ Pescara: http://www.provincia.pescara.it/ Chieti: http://www.provincia.chieti.it/ Abruzzo is a beautiful region on the east coast of the Italian peninsula. The internal border of Abruzzo is just 70 miles inland from Rome. The rest of the drive across Abruzzo to the Adriatic sea, is mountainous and spotted with Italy’s most well-preserved medieval and Renaissance hilltowns.
The region is divided into 4 provinces: L’Aquila, Teramo, Pescara, and
Chieti. Before 1963 the region included Molise and was called “Abruzzi
e Molise”. “Abruzzi”, being the plural form of “Abruzzo”, was used to
reference the two Abruzzos defined by the 18th century Bourbons.
Nowadays there is just one Abruzzo, and Molise has become its own
separate region. The capital of the region of Abruzzo is the city of
L’Aquila, in the province of L’Aquila.
