Vasto Archeological (Neptune)

The town of Vasto preserves considerable monumental remains of the ancient Histonium romana, previously a Frentano settlement. These remains are spread throughout the beautiful old town, dominated by the 13th century castle. They are primarily remains from the 1st-2nd century A.D., when the city took on its finished urban form. The baths, decorated by beautiful black and white mosaics depicting marine themes, including Neptune, are located along the panoramic Via Adriatica. The Archaeology Museum in Palazzo D’Avalos is also well worth a visit, exhibiting materials that tell the story of the Frentano area from the Iron Age to the Middle Ages.
