HISTORICAL INFORMATION:

The characteristic narrow streets are a testimony of the medieval history in this town, which was first mentioned in documents dating back to the 12th century. As a medieval hamlet, Altino belonged to the feudal De Anchino family who ruled it until 1534. The town was later handed over to Diego de Moccicao, then Alvaro de Grado and was then sold to Giovanni Vincenzo Crispano. It also passed through the hands of the Tovo, Furia, and Paolucci families. Toward the end of the Reign of the Two Sicilies the town suffered repeated invasion.
