Archi sits on a rocky hill towering on the ridge between the Aventino and Sangro valleys, with beautiful views of the forests on Colle della Serra and the Majella mountain. In recent years the town population has remained stable, thanks to large industries settling in Val di Sangro.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION:
This town was constructed in the medieval age, (13th century) and was fortified in 1213 by walls for protection. Many parts of these walls are still standing. For many years it was a strategic point in battles and feuds, as it was one of the few fortified towns in the area, together with Roccascalegna and Casoli. In 1269 the territory was assigned to Bertrando del Balzo and his heirs in a letter by King Charles of Anjou. It also passed through the hands of the Corona, Carafa, and Cantelmo families before landing in the hands of Giovanna, the only daughter of Ferrante I of Aragona and Giovanna III Queen of Naples in 1476. In more recent times it is well known for its large capacity in olive oil production.
