POPULATION 1650 ELEVATION 840 mt A few kilometers from the province of Rieti (in the region of Lazio), the town of Cagnano Amiterno is a tipical agricultural center in the area north of L'Aquila. Of medieval origins, the town had gone completely to ruin around three centuries ago. WHAT TO SEE Placed in the valley of Velino the town is made up of four quarters. In the quarter of San Cosimo, there's the church of the Madonna delle Grazie that still has a valuable cross from the 16th century. The first information about the town dates back from the 12th century. Afterwards, together with other towns it contributed to the foundation of L'Aquila.
