Cerchio is situated on the lower slopes of Monte Sirente where it has a beautiful panorama of the basin of Fucino.
Placed in the heart of the Marsica the town still has traces characterized by the town's medieval structure.
HISTORICAL FACTS
The town, devastated by the earthquake of 1915 has a legend attached
to it, presumably produced in Roman times, that states that Cerchio
arose out of a small group of houses built on a nearby circus that the
Romans built for the celebrations of the inauguration of Claudio,
emissary of the ancient lake of Fucino.
WHAT TO SEE
In the parish church is conserved a silver cross from the Sulmona
school that was made in 1484 and in the church of Sant'Antonio there
are three terracorra statues from the 16th century.
The Museo Civico is particularly interesting as it is in a former
Augustinian convent with sections dedicated to sacred religious art,
ethnography, peasant culture, and craftmanship.
