Civitella is a delightful mountain village near Lake Barrea that has a picturesque historic center and is beautifully situated in Italy's most famous national park.
From here one leaves numerous trails that lead to the most precious zones of the Parco Nazionale d'Abruzzo, such as la Camosciara, la Val di Rose, il feudo Intramonti.
The houses of Civitella are embellished with beautiful portals. There was also a wall built against brigand and Saracen invaders. There are many trails around the town but the most frequented is that of la Val di Rose where once can experience the biggest concentration of chamois and also the best view of the park.


HISTORICAL FACTS
Civitella Alfedena has Samnite and Marsi origins, peoples that fiercly fought against the excessive power and expansion of ancient Rome.
The Romans had difficulty conquering Abruzzo, and eventually agreements were made between them and the various tribal peoples in order to make peace.

WHAT TO SEE
The most important medieval fortification was the town's tower, built in the 14th century.
Also to see is the San Nicola parish church, known for its Baroque interiors.
At Civitella one can visit the museum of the wolf and the fauna of the area of the lynx.
There is also a wolf sanctuary nearby among the park's many natural reserves in the area.
