Elevation: 450 meters Population: 1800 Zip code: 66015 The town is known to be one of the largest producers of pasta. Fara San Martino is situated at the opening of the Santo Spirito valley, next to the river Verde. In Fara, you can find a major separation of two cliffs, great for hiking now. The legend says that it was San Martino that opened up the rock with his bare arms. The town is surrounded by caves where they have been used by shepherds and bandits. Next to the town, you can see the Majella mountain, where the National park della Majella is located. HISTORICAL FACTS Fara’s hamlet has longobard origins, therefore in the 8th century. In the 9th century, the hamlet was colonized by the Benedectine’s monks. After 5 centuries of their leadership, it turned into the feudal system and it belonged to the Valignani family of Chieti.
