Lentella is a mountain top hamlet located in the vicinities of Vasto, off the Statale 650 Trignina.

HISTORICAL FACTS
The legend says that a noble lady, daughter of a Roman governor, travelling around Abruzzo, decided to stop in the Lentella area for a while. When she left to go back to Rome, she left behind some tents that some people used for housing purposes therefore jumpstarting the population and civilation of that specific small territory. The lady’s name was Lentula.
The original village of Lentella was built at the bottom of the hill, near the conjuction of the rivers Treste and Trigno. During that period though, the Saracens and other Barbarians were invading the areas, coming from the sea. They use to burn down houses, rape women, and steal all belongings. At that point, people had to either leave town or move to a safer place in the vicinities. Many decided to stay in the neighbourhood and just moved on top of a hill, building their town again. That is how Lentella and many other hilltop towns have been created. Living on top of a hill, gives you the opportunity of not being caught by surprise by the Saracens and therefore find safety or hide or prepare to fight. Further more, the hamlets started to be fortified with walls, main city doors, and building at least one fortified palace where to hide.
