The town is located not too far from lake of Campostosto and it is very close to the province of Rieti which is in the Lazio region. It is one of the most western located towns in Abruzzo. As a matter of fact the culinary traditions and ways of talking are very similar to the neighbouring province.
HISTORICAL FACTS
The origin of the hamlet of medieval and the former name was Monte
Reagalis. During the medieval times, the hamlet was ruled by many
different feudal families. The most important of those was the Farnese
family. The area is loaded with Convents and church because back in the
days it was used for resting and meditation purposes from different
religious orders. Some of buildings were considered hermitages.
WHAT TO SEE
One of the most important spots worth of seeing is the church of Santa
Maria Assunta, with its 16th century architecture style, with a
Romanesque portal. Also the church of Beato San Andrea, refurbished in
the 18th century but its origins were from the 12th century. Inside the
church you can admire a marble artwork from the mid 1700s, contain some
of the clothing of the Saint.
