Wonderful little hamlet, now famous for Saffron but back in the days it was an important rest stop for the transhumance path. It is located in the Navelli valley and with its special climate, unique soil and with an astrological reason, provides one of the best saffron in the world.
HISTORICAL FACTS
Piana di Navelli on the Saffron Road. Saffron, a precious ingredient in
the finest dishes, reached this area from the orient over the historic
"transumanza" sheep herding paths that drove the local economy for
centuries. These well-trodden paths led from the mountains down to the
grasslands by the sea, where shepherds would take their sheep for
grazing in the winters, trading their goods along the way. Exploring
how these trades and transactions along the Tratturo trails influenced
the lives of Jews in the Apennine mountains and the economy overall.
