Ocre is a beautiful little hamlet divided in many small fractions named San Felice D'Ocre, San Martino D'Ocre, San Panfilo D'Ocre, Valle Cavalletto D'Ocre, Convento Sant'Angelo. It is located up in the mountains in the province of l’Aquila.
HISTORICAL FACTS
Back in the days, this area was populated by the Italics population (very feisty that gave a hard times to the Romans). For a long time the hamlet was ruled by the feudal families Conti dei Marsi and Conti del Sangro. Part of the city was built on a plateau by the valley of the Aterno river. In the fraction of San Panfilo, you will find the fortified town built in the 12th century. The town was destroyed a century later and then rebuilt in the 14th century.

WHAT TO SEE
- Abbey of Santo Spirito built in the 12th century, where inside the church you will be able to see frescos of the late 12th century and some of the 15th century. Moreover, there are also frescos of Beato Placido.
- Convent of Sant’Angelo, built in the 12th century, with the chapel filled with frescos from the mid 1600s.
