ELEVATION: 1250 meters POPULATION: 550 Opi’s village is located in the Sangro Valley. Being on top of a hill, the view of the neighboring towns is spectacular. Like all the medieval villages, it was constructed from the top-down. HISTORICAL FACTS The name Opi comes from the Goddess of abundance, daughter of Saturn. The history of Opi is very similar and attached to the one of Pescasseroli. Opi and the towns nearby, in the mid 1500s was land of bandits due to the poverty and a way of resurgence against the few rich families. The economy of this little village was always based on lumber and sheep herding. In 1737, the feudal family of the baron Margherita Palone inherited area. WHAT TO SEE - Church of Santa Maria Assunta, built in the 12th century, and refurbished due to the many earthquakes - Chapel of San Giovanni Battista, located next to the square. The style is the Abruzzo baroque, built in the 17th century by Vincenzo Rossi, noble man of the area.
