The village is located in the province of l’Aquila, in the Marsican area.

HISTORICAL FACTS
Due to many findings, it testify that this village was populated for thousands years. We are talking about “Homo Sapiens era”. There are some archeology digs saying that there was life under the Fucino lake. Before the lake was a lake, this area was an enormous glacier, then transformed into a lake.
The old name of this village was Ortigia and in the middle of the town.
In the 15th century the castle Piccolomini of Orticchio was built and it was the typical example of a fortified building. Built to be on the lake and for the lake.

-    Church of Sant’Orante, built in the 8th  century: old name of the church Santa Maria Ortucla
-    La grotta(cave) di Ortucchio, utilized from the prehistoric until the medieval times
-    Village of Colle of Santo Stefano
