pennapiedimonte2.jpg Pennapiedimonte is located on the southern part of the Maiella mountain and on the banks of the Avella river. This village is perched on a rocky spur in a landscaped marked by gorges, caves and perilous tracks. The town is shaped with the help of the natural rocky walls that surround the village. In the past, Pennapiedimonte had a lot of rock climbing facilities but lately they have been left behind.
 


HISTORICAL INFORMATION

First news of this village was during the 1200s during the ruling of Boemondo of Manoppello. In the 1500s, the village was ruled by the Orsini family and in the 1700s by the Colonna family from Rome.

WHAT TO SEE
The parish church  that was built by the local artisans in 1710-1725. It features a painting on wood of a Crucifix, an altar piece figured Saint Brigit and paintings on canvas from the Neoplotan school from the 1700s.
