ELEVATION 800 meters POPULATION 720 A village characterized by the imposing medieval castle, not far from the Lazio Region and the Simbruini mountain. HISTORICAL FACTS The King of Naples donated the town and the relative feud to the Colonna family. On the boundaries with the Lazio region, on the Fontecellese Mount the village is embellished by another medieval church with pointed arches, in the hamlet of San Silvestro, preserving in its inside frescoes and a wooden Madonna statue. WHAT TO SEE In the surroundings it is possible to visit the Sanctuary of Santa Maria dei Bisognosi (or Madonna del Monte), a wonderful area of pilgrimage, with a unique panorama over the central Appennines, according to the legend built to protect and hide a picture of a Madonna with the Child coming from Siviglia against the Sarcenes’ attacks.Founded in the Early Middle Ages, it preserves 14 th-century frescoes depicting Heaven and Hell, some others about the Gospel scenes FESTIVITIES 16 -17th August: St. Antonio’s day August: St. Giorgio’s feast.
