Pizzoli is located in the province of l’Aquila, in the hills by the Aterno valley, at the food of Monte Marine.
HISTORICAL FACTS
Lying in the northern part of L’Aquila, the village is particularly devoted to agriculture and has many valuable artistic monuments to visit. During the 16th century the village was often sold by a noble family to the other. A castle of the L’Aquila contado (countryside), after a rebellion against the chief town to which it bElong, Pizzoli was given by the emperor Charles the V to the Captain Francesco Aldana, later to Giovanni de Felicis; successively the village became a feud of Pietro Gonzales, then Alfonso Basutro and Dianora di NocerA, who sold it to Ferrante de Torres in 1575, whose descendants ruled it until the end of feudalism
WHAT TO SEE
- Dragonetti de Torres castle, 17th century building that sits on highest spot of town. It preserves many works of art and valuable paintings.
- Church of St. Stefano, built in the 13th century, with a stone façade fine, Loaded with frescoes from the 14th can be admired
