Poggio Picenze is located in the southern part of l’Aquila, on the route between Barisciano and Santo Stefano di Sessanio.

HISTORICAL FACTS
For a long time Poggio Picenze was known for the several stone quarries of its surroundings. Still nowadays if you drive in the vicinities you will be able to see them, well exposed. La pietra della Majella is great for mosaics. After a rebellion against the chief town in 1533, the village was given by the emperor Charles V to Antonio Aladana; in the late 18th century it belonged as marquisate to the noble de Sterlich family of Chieti.
